Fundamentals in System Rail

The California State Transportation Agency (CalSTA) and the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) released the 2018 California State Rail Plan, a strategic plan describing an exciting vision for an integrated and coordinated public transportation network that will provide Californians with a new option to travel the state reliably, conveniently and sustainably.

The objective of the initial training was to provide essential skills and knowledge to Caltrans staff to support a successful implementation of the State Rail Plan. The training covered the key characteristics of rail systems and provided an overview of the dependencies between the various elements that make up a safe and efficient railroad. Detailed training modules went into the specifics of rail service offerings, organizational frameworks, rail infrastructure and rolling stock, and rail operations and planning.
