Booking & Enrollment

How do I book a course?

To book a course, go to Courses. You will find our courses under the different product areas in the dropdown menu. You can also use the search function to find a particular course.

Once on the course page, scroll down to the section titled ‘Booking’. There you can see which courses are available for booking where and when. To book, press ‘book now’ next to the desired course. This will start the booking process. A new window will appear showing your chosen course in the basket. Please note, you need to check the box to confirm you have read our terms and conditions before you press ‘checkout now’. The order number box is optional and only needs to be completed if you want to assign a number to the order for your own personal reference.

If this is your first booking, you first need to create a My Academy account. You can either register as an individual or a company. Please fill out the fields and assign yourself a password (a combination of at least 12 letters and numbers - please do not use any part of your user name).

Once you are logged in to your My Academy account, follow the steps to allocate the course participant(s) and pay for the course(s) in your basket. You can either allocate yourself for the course by pressing ‘allocate me’, or you can allocate someone else by adding a ‘new person’. Please note, that if you have already added someone for an earlier booking, you should use ‘search’ to find them again. After each successful payment of a course, you will receive a confirmation e-mail for your booking and the corresponding invoice in a separate e-mail.

In the ‘My Orders’ section of your My Academy account, you can also see your completed bookings.

Can I book more than one course?

Yes you can. You can either book one course at a time or you can add more courses to your basket before proceeding to pay.

Important: You can only add more than one product to your basket if it has the same currency. If you have two products or more in your basket with different currencies you will encounter a problem when you come to pay. Please make sure that all items in your basket have the same currency before proceeding to pay.

Please note that course fees are charged at the time of booking to secure a place on the course. Completed registrations are processed on a first-come, first-served basis.

How do I cancel a course?

You need to contact us directly if would like to cancel a course as you can’t cancel bookings directly on our website. All cancelations must be submitted in written form and sent to db-railacademy@deutschebahn.com.

 

Your written notification should include the following information concerning the course(s) you wish to cancel:
- the full name (first and last name) of the person who booked the course
- the name, place and dates of the course
- the transaction date – this can be found on the invoice
- the booking reference number - this can be found on your confirmation email or
  under ‘description’ on the invoice
- the invoice number.

To cover administration costs we charge a cancellation fee of 10% per cent. This applies for all cancellations made by the customer and these cancellations must be sent to us in writing at least 45 days before the course starts. In the case of a cancellation by the customer up to 45 days prior to the commencement of the services, the cancellation fee will be 10%. After this, if a cancellation is at least 30 days before the course starts, half of the payments will be refunded. If a cancellation is sent less than 30 days before the course starts, none of the payments will be refunded. Relevant for the cancellation fee payable is the date on which DB Rail Academy has received the written notice of cancellation from the customer. The full price of the services will also be charged if the customer fails to attend the course without prior notice. 

Once DB Rail Academy has cancelled your booking, you will receive a confirmation of the cancellation of the booking via email and a revived invoice. Subject to our terms and conditions, you will receive a part or no refund for this cancellation. The amount will be refunded directly to your payment card.

What happens if I cannot attend a course?

If you cannot attend a booked course, then please contact us via email db-railacademy@deutschebahn.com to cancel the course. Please also refer to How do I cancel a course? 

Am I obliged to attend the course, if DB RA changes the location/time/date of the course?

DB Rail Academy strives to confirm all classes; however, changes and/or cancelations are sometimes unavoidable. DB Rail Academy is entitled to change the venue and/or time and/or date of the course at short notice. Should this happen, you are not obliged to attend the course. If the change does not suit you, you can cancel the course free of charge.

In the case of a change or cancelation of a course, DB Rail Academy will contact each participant or primary contact by e-mail.

What happens if the number of participants is not sufficient?

DB Rail Academy is entitled to offer a change of a course or cancel the course should there be an insufficient number of participants for a particular course. In the case of cancelation, any sums already paid will be refunded.

In the case of a change or cancelation of a course, DB Rail Academy will contact each participant or primary contact by e-mail.

When is my payment due?

The method of payment is credit card. We accept Visa, Mastercard and American Express. Credit cards will be charged the full course fee at the time of booking. Our payment processor Stripe, Inc carries out this process and charges the payment amount due to the credit card shown on the website at the time of booking. After each successful payment of a course you will receive a confirmation e-mail for your booking and the corresponding invoice in a separate mail.

Can I pay in installments?

No, this is not possible. The method of payment is credit card and credit cards are charged the full course fee at the time of booking.

What payment methods are accepted?

What happens if I forgot to pay or paid late?

The method of payment is credit card and credit cards are charged the full course fee at the time of booking. Our payment processor Stripe, Inc carries out this process and charges the payment amount due to the credit card shown on the website at the time of booking. Consequently there should be no such case of delayed payment or non-payment.

Please note that participation in a course is subject to a successful payment charge. In the case of a non-payment, DB Rail Academy is entitled to refuse the customers admission to the course.

What does the course fee cover?

The course fee covers the course, the training materials – in paper or digital form – and the use of any technical equipment required for the participation of the course.

Does the course fee cover any travel costs, board, lodgings or associated expenses?

All travel arrangements are the participants’ responsibility. The fee does not include the customers’ travel costs, board, lodging or any other associated expenses. DB Rail Academy assumes no responsibility for non-refundable travel arrangement losses resulting from class scheduling changes and/or cancelations.

Can the cost of travel, board, lodgings or associated expenses be provided by DB Rail Academy?

No, the customers’ travel costs, board, lodging or any other associated expenses cannot be provided by DB Rail Academy. Please also see ‘Does the course fee cover any travel costs, board, lodgings or associated expenses?’.

Where are the courses offered?

We offer different learning formats. Our classroom training courses take place at several locations around the world. We also offer online training in the form of webinars. Providing you have the necessary technical equipment and a good internet connection, you can participate in our online training sessions from anywhere you like.

How much does the course cost me?

The prices for our courses vary depending on the learning format, type of course, location and duration. To find out what is covered in the price, please also see What does the course fee cover?

How long does it take to complete a course?

This depends on the learning format; type of course, location and content. The duration is given in the booking section on each course page.

What are the requirements for participating in a course?

You can find the requirements for the course on the individual course webpage under the quick facts. Depending on the course level (fundamental or advanced), there may be no prerequisite or pre-knowledge necessary.

What are the technical requirements for participating in an online course?

Our online trainings are provided via the Internet. You need to make sure that you have available all telecommunication facilities, IT hard- and software required to access and participate in the trainings. The necessary information is described on our website or will be communicated to you otherwise ahead of the online trainings. Please note that you are responsible for ensuring that you are actually able to access the online trainings from your location so please ensure that your equipment is compatible with the technology used by us to provide the services and that there are no obstacles to access at your location, such as government restrictions on access to internet services.

How do I choose the right course for me?

To help you find the right course we have categorized our courses into different product areas. Furthermore, we have a search function to help you look for courses using key attributes such as target group, course level, and type of course and location.

Are there any discounts available?

We do not offer discounts all the time. We do, however, offer promotions from time to time. You will be informed about any promotions on our website or via the newsletter if you have registered to receive it.

When a promotion is on offer, there is a promotion code. When you have chosen a course and pressed ‘book now’, you will be given the option to add the promotion code into the corresponding field. Important: Once you have added the course, please press ‘apply’. You will receive a message confirming the promotion code has been applied and the price on the right should now show the discount. To proceed check the box to confirm you have read our terms and conditions before you press ‘checkout now’. Please note, the order number box is optional and only needs filling in if you want to give the order a number for your own personal reference.

Online Trainings

What is an Online Training and how can I participate?

Online training courses are transmitted live over the internet and are professionally conducted by our trainers.

Any person who registers for an online training via our website can participate. All you have to do is book an online training of your choice on our website. Shortly after your order, you will receive a booking confirmation. 

In time before the course starts, you will receive the access data for your online training by e-mail from WebEx 'messenger@webex.com'. Please note that this e-mail could also end up in your spam folder. 

What is WebEx Training

WebEx Training is a professional solution for conducting effective virtual trainings, that keep you engaged interactively during the entire training session. You do not need to download a tool for WebEx training, only a good internet connection is required.

What are the technical requirements for an Online Training?

As a participant you do not need to download any software, only a stable internet access and a current browser is required. We recommend to dial in with a laptop or desktop PC to follow the training. 

Various operating systems support our WebExTraining tool, including Windows 7 to 10 or Mac OS X 10.10 (Yosemite) to 10.14 (Mojave) or higher. You can access the link to the virtual classroom via various current web browsers, such as Internet Explorer (version 11 or higher), Microsoft Edge, Mozilla Firefox (52 and higher), Google Chrome or Apple Safari.

Do I need a microphone or a webcam?

No, you do not necessarily need a webcam. As a participant you will be automatically muted during the online training. You will hear the sound through your speakers or headphones. You can easily ask your questions to the trainer via the chat. But we recommend using headphones with an integrated microphone for an interactive training session. 

How can I test if the software and technology works?

For the technical check, please dial in 15-30 minutes earlier, so that we can help you in time if technical problems occur.

Certification & Recognition

What kind of certification will I get?

You will get an attendance certificate for participation in our courses or an international certificate for participation in our programs.

When do I get my certification?

You will get your certificate after completing a course.

Will my certification be recognized?

Our certificates are certified with DEKRA ISO 9001. For more information please visit https://www.dekra.com/en/iso-9001/.

How will I receive my certification?

Your trainer will hand you your certificate in person or you will receive it by mail at the address provided.

How does the certification help me to advance my career?

With our training courses, you can develop your skills and gain knowledge from DB’s more than 180 years of experience running railways. Depending on your vocation and choice of course, you may be able to put the knowledge you have acquired into practice and expand your personal career.
